Product Description
The RAID Option
Unlike mere drive boxes, The Aragon storage/backup system actively manages the 1-3 drives in its quick-change trays. Set your drives to RAID 0,1, or 5. You decide the tradeoff between capacity and redundancy. The Aragon can be outfitted with ATA drives up to 500 GB in size, allowing the following configurations.
- one drive would allow you to store 500 GB
- two drives would allow you to store 1 TB or mirror 500 GB. Mirroring assures no loss of data if one drive malfunctions, since each drive is a full copy of the other.
- Three drives would allow you to store 1.5 TB of information, or 1 TB of RAID 5 protected storage. RAID 5 protects you against any one drive failing, since the data is redundantly distributed can be reconstructed using the remaining two hard drives. And because RAID management is internal on the RAID chipset in the Aragon, your CPU performance is unaffected.
Direct Attach
So easy. Your storage is automatically recognized. And performance? USB 2.0 gives you 480 Mbit/sec, superior to fast ethernet’s 100 Mbit/sec. There is also a 1394 Firewire 400 Mbit/sec port. You can even use JOBD to span several Aragons into one multi-terabyte volume
Complete with Software
Included with the Aragon is a Volume Manager software package that allows you to configure, share and manage your storage for optimal results across a network. One or several RAID 5 volumes can be combined into a resource for network backup or storage expansion, free from the limitations of physical disks or arrays. The Volume Manager has an easy to use Graphical User Interface.
