CD Sleeves
CD sleeves provide protection, ease of use and an additional area to write information about the disc. CD sleeves come in several different styles. The first design of the CD sleeve is the "with flap" CD sleeve. Next CD sleeve is "with window". This type of sleeve has a clear plastic window over the area where a CD disc would display its graphics. The next type of CD sleeve is with no window and no flap. The CD simply slides in and slides out. CD sleeves come in many different colors but white CD sleeves are the most common. During the holidays the red CD sleeve and green CD sleeve are very popular. Black CD sleeves for Halloween. Colored CD sleeves certainly bring awareness and interest to the recordable CD disc inside.
CD sleeves come in several different materials. White paper CD sleeves are the most predominant (and the least expensive). Paperboard or cardboard CD sleeves are another option. These can border on being CD mailers when they actually have a flap with a seal. All depends on the thickness (or "point"). Cardboard CD sleeves provide greater safety to the disc from outside forces then paper CD sleeves.
Tyvek is another material used in CD sleeves. Tyvek products are a DuPont product line that has very tightly spun plastic fibers that create a water-proof barrier, durable and is gentle in contact with the recordable CD disc. Tyvek CD sleeves follow the same makeup as CD paper sleeves with window, flap, no flap, no window with flap and just a plain white Tyvek CD sleeve. Colors are an option with Tyvek CD sleeves also.
Plastic CD Sleeves are a world in themselves. Clear cellophane type with a peel and seal strip. These CD sleeves are used for both a bare recordable CD and in a slightly larger size to cover CD jewel cases. Vinyl is another product used. Vinyl CD sleeves come in the same variety as paper CD sleeves except vinyl CD sleeves do not come in colors: Always clear. PP (polypropylene) CD sleeves have an opaque appearance and are less "sticky" then vinyl.
Certainly the intended use of the CD sleeve is to be considered closely. It can accent the printable CD label or hide it. The CD sleeve can be for archiving or handing out at a presentation. CD Sleeves are a large part of CD packaging and marketing.
