Gold CD-R Media for Archiving and Preservation

Gold CD media provides protection against failure of the reflective layer as with common silver surfaces which tend to oxidize over time. For long term archiving Gold is the way to go. Typical life expectancy of Gold reflective layer CD-R is 300 years. Genuine gold reflective layer CD-R media has a polycarbonate layer, an organic dye (typically azo or Phthalocyanine, a reflective gold layer (24K), protective lacquer layer and usually a hard coating on top (or ink jet printable surface). Some manufacturers (we do not carry) use an orange colored polycarbonate layer or a printed gold top in order to give the appearance of gold archival media.
