Blu-ray DVD Supplies

Rewritable Blu-ray discs are available in single-layer and dual-layer formats, with each layer capable of holding approximately 25 gigabytes of data. Thus, a dual-layer disc could store 50 gigs of data, which is enough to hold up to nine hours of high-definition video or 23 hours of video at standard definition resolutions.

Rewritable Blu-ray Speeds and Accessories for Mac Users

At 4x speeds, which are sustainable even in the most basic Blu-ray disc duplication units, a single-layer disc can be recorded and ready for use in approximately 24 minutes. Keeping in mind that most high-end units are capable of mass-producing discs at speeds far greater than 4x--speeds as fast as 12x--duplication becomes even more affordable.

The rewritable format code is BD-RE, which is not to be confused with BD-R, which is used to designate a Blu-ray disc that is not rewritable, but recordable only once (but readable many times). MCE internal so-called "super drives" are available as upgrades for MacIntosh users, allowing them to take full advantage of rewritable Blu-ray technology without switching over to PCs. Used as hardware upgrades, MCE internal super drives are suitable for the mass production of CDs, DVDs and even BD-Rs and BD-REs on Mac platforms. However, the most moderately priced MCE internal units are limited to the CD and DVD formats.
